2021 Schuneman Symposium

Theme: Covering Global Crises

Each year the Schuneman Symposium brings acclaimed journalists and experts to OHIO. Sponsored jointly by the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism and the School of Visual Communication, the symposium was made possible by a generous donation from OHIO alumni Dr. R. Smith Schuneman and Patricia W. Schuneman and designed to help OHIO’s journalism students become more aware of the power of photography and for the photojournalism students to appreciate the power of the written word. This annual symposium is free and open to the public.

The focus of 2021 Schuneman Symposium is how journalists and photojournalists report and document crises around the world. Speakers will explore the rights and responsibilities of the press in these circumstances and describe their experiences reporting from Iraq, Manila, Afghanistan, and elsewhere.
